Calmer Farmer Hobby Farm Consultant isn’t like many other agricultural consultants, farm managers, or contractors.

I don’t just look at what you have, then tell you what to do.

I TEACH you how to understand your farm from the soil up, so you can make confident decisions based on the knowledge you have gained whilst working with us. Ultimately, I feel this creates a deeper bond between you and the land you live on, as well as allowing you to save money by learning how to become a more productive, intuitive farmer who is less reliant on outside help.

For the Novice Farmer

For those property owners who are ready to take control of their farm and become skilled and knowledgeable farmers, capable of doing everything themselves.

Our Hobby Farmer Consultant has programs to suit new farmers – both near and far, big budget or small – to help you get it right the first time.

*NEW* Personalised Strategy Session

Enhance your farm’s potential with a personalized Strategy Session. During this 90 minute session, I will dedicate my time to grasp your current situation and gain a clear understanding of your farming aspirations. Together, we can establish attainable short-term goals and objectives, bringing you closer to realising your farming dreams. Moreover, I will provide you with a comprehensive post-session report, offering valuable recommendations to address any long-term concerns or issues you may have regarding your farming endeavours.

Short course

An online short course is available for those farmers who aren’t necessarily local to the Mornington Peninsula, yet are wanting to access professional, experienced, tailored 1:1 advice from a practicing hobby farmer. This 8-week course will allow you to develop a much greater understanding of your farm resources. I will guide you through tasks that have been carefully designed to help you assess your resources for yourself. We will then focus deeply on how to best utilise these to set practical farm enterprise goals, prioritise tasks, and save money long term.

Mentoring

Farm mentoring is available for new farmers who are wanting reliable access to an experienced, unbiased farmer with no hidden agendas. Mentoring will provide you with regular 1:1 sessions to discuss issues or concerns regarding your farm, and how to workshop these. I make every effort to understand you and your farm goals, so that information provided can be specifically tailored to suit you, wherever you are.

Consultancy

This 12 month program begins with a full property report of your farm’s initial resources; from water availability and soil type to infrastructure, vegetation, fencing and so much more. The resulting report will help you to understand exactly what your property does (and doesn’t) have.

Presentation of the report is followed by a series of intensive planning sessions to discuss what you and your family want to achieve. The feasibility of this, and how to reach your enterprise goals will all be carefully planned out with you in achievable steps. These are all conducted at your farm, at times that suits you.

Then comes the fun bit – getting outside and learning those practical skills that YOU need to see your farm grow. This could include livestock management and handling, pasture growth and renovation, fruit and vegetable production, fencing and shed repairs.

By the end of 12 months, you will have;

  • A deep understanding of exactly what your farm is capable of achieving;
  • Made visible improvements to the way you run your farm;
  • A clear vision of where you want your farm to go, with the knowledge that you now have the practical skills to do it yourself.

A six month program is now also available, focussing more heavily on understanding your farm’s resources, and writing and developing a working farm plan.

For the Purchaser

This service is aimed to help you to determine if the property you are considering purchasing will be able to meet your farming needs. Whilst only the rural aspects of the property will be inspected, this could include:

  • Appropriateness of existing infrastructure such as shedding;
  • water availability;
  • soil and pasture suitability;
  • fencing for your potential venture.

A written report of the outcomes and their suitability to your potential venture will then be provided to you to help you to make the final decision.
