Welcome to Calmer Farmer

First time farmer and not sure where to start? Let us help you understand your farm, make it productive and GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME.

Calmer Farmer offers first-time hobby farmers the opportunity to access farm assessment and planning short courses, 1:1 mentoring, and skill building sessions to help you to become a better farmer.

Owning a property is a huge investment of both your time and finances. It can be daunting starting out as a new farmer, and you want to know that what you put into your property is going to improve it, not end up being a costly mistake.

First step towards becoming a successful farmer

Every farmer and their farm is different.

  • Arrange your initial free 30 minute consultation to speak with someone who really understands how overwhelming a new farm can be.
  • Book a 90 minute strategy session and receive a full post-session report, complete with personalised goals, objectives and recommendations specific to improving your farming situation.
  • Complete the short course to learn how to assess your farm resources. You can then make educated decisions about your proposed endeavours, how to move forward with these, and plan for success.

My aim is to teach you how to be the best hobby farmer you can be, in a way that suits you.

The Calmer Farmer Blog

If you would like to see how our 50-acre farm in Hastings functions on a daily basis, please check out my blog. This is predominantly a livestock farm with several different types of livestock, so topics will be focussed mostly on the needs of our different animals.

Testimonials

We are well on our way now to reaching our pasture goals

I cannot thank you enough Christine at Calmer Farmer for all of your time and such valuable advice. Moving to property from the city was very overwhelming, we never imagined there was so much to learn about pasture, weeds, fencing, treeline for protection, sheep, chooks, vegetable gardens, soil management and the list goes on and on.

Your property assessment report is so thorough, detailed, and extremely helpful and is a great tool for us to look back on when we need to. We are happy to say we are well on our way now to reaching our pasture goals and it is all thanks to you.

I could not recommend you highly enough and look forward to you helping us again in the future. Thank you so much!

We discovered Christine at the Calmer Farmer late last year and haven’t looked back

My family and I moved onto acreage property for the first time in the last 16 months. While the block is beautiful, there was no infrastructure for paddocks, sheds or even a vegetable garden. Our block was a blank slate. We loved the idea of living on the land but we had no idea where to start when it came to where to locate everything and how to go about it all.
We discovered Christine at the Calmer Farmer late last year and haven’t looked back. Christine took the time to really get to know what we wanted out of our property and has helped us work through our planning stages for various areas on our block.
Her knowledge and practical implementation of all things farming and agriculture have been so beneficial to us. We now understand our land so much better and it has been great to see some of our plans really take shape over the last few months.
Looking forward to seeing so many more positive changes to our property over the coming year.
We are so happy to have found Christine!

Christine’s report has provided the answers to the ‘Where to now?’ questions.

Christine’s report was a great help to us on our small-holding property. Her assessment of all the land, soil and pasture condition has provided excellent information for the answer to the “Where to now?” question. We’re on to the planning phase now so the next steps are a bit cerebral and then the fun begins!
